Big Man 빅맨 Rises Steadily in Ratings Along with Continued Awesome Scenes
with Kang Ji Hwan 강지환 and Jung So Min 정소민

My love for the phenomenal acting combination of Kang Ji Hwan and Jung So Min in Big Man keeps growing and growing like the ratings of the drama itself. It’s never going to be a major hit but a drama with steadily climbing ratings likely makes the cast comforted that the audience likes it enough that more people are tuning in. KBS is doing a solid job promoting Big Man with a combination of drama stills and now it’s even held a mid-drama press conference to further drum up interest.

I remain riveted solely for the scenes between Kang Ji Hwan’s Ji Hyuk and Jung So Min’s Jin Ah, and the JJ-couple is heating up the screens with more and more scenes that tap into their chemistry and hint at something more. Episode 9 and 10 turned the drama in a new direction with Ji Hyuk trying to go on with his life, without immediately vowing revenge, but discovering that he’s already in too deep with the crazy rich family from Hell.

Thankfully Jin Ah broke with her nutso clan and moved out and moved in with Ji Hyuk with a giant F-you to her parents face.

I loved it and I love her, the only character aside from Ji Hyuk that says it like it is. She’s fearless and Ji Hyuk can see it without getting bogged down in her family ties. I loved their scene in episode 9 when he finds her outside his apartment and she yells that he has to take responsibility for her. He tries to send her away but when she whines that she hasn’t eaten yet, he takes her in like a stray kitten and not only feeds her but wipes her hands after she’s passed out asleep in exhaustion.

Episode 10 ups their growing comfort with each other, with Jin Ah “cooking” for Ji Hyuk but clearly her culinary skills is nonexistent. Ji Hyuk’s buddy spits out the food but Ji Hyuk actually forces himself to swallow it and doesn’t say anything disparaging because she’s just bursting with happiness that she’s cooked good food for him. Then he notices that she’s burned herself cooking and patches her burn up with ointment and a band aid.

Jin Ah is beaming because she thinks the band aid looks like a ring around her burned finger. Sigh, I need so little from these two to make me happy, and I’m so grateful for KBS to give me even this much.

‘Big Man” Jung So Min Puts Everything On The Line

Jung So Min showed his feelings for Kang Ji Whan.

On the 9th episode of KBS 2TV Monday/Tuesday drama “Big Man” broadcast on May 26th, Kang Ji Whan (played by Kim Ji Whan) heard Jung So Min (played by Kang Jin Ah) say that to get everything, he would stop at nothing.

On this episode, Kang Jin Ah was having dinner with the family members of Daesam Group and said to Kang Sung Wook (played by Um Hyo Sup), “What did you do with Kim Ji Hyuk?” he asked. He promised Kim Ji Hyuk that he would send him safely to a foreign country but the actual person who left was another person with the same name as Ji Hyuk.

At this, Jin Ah left the scene and went to look for Ji Hyuk. Jin Ah who saw Ji Hyuk in front of her eyes said, “What are you going to do with my life? You have to feel guilty” and resented Ji Hyuk.

In the end, Jin Ah left his house and decided to live with Ji Hyuk. He told So Mi Ra who came to see her, “I can keep Kim Ji Hyuk. I”m an only child and I”m here so what are those people going to do.” More than this, Sang Ho (played by Han Sang Jin) said, “I can give it all up for him. Everything that I have” he said firmly and showed his feelings for Kim Ji Hyuk.

Netizens who saw this episode said, “Jung So Min is so pretty.” “Jung So Min, has an unexpected charisma.” “Jung So Min, how can you not love a woman like this?” and showed random reactions.

On May 27, at Ansung, Gyeonggi-do Arts Center, a press conference was held for the main characters of the KBS2 drama Big Man – Kang Ji Hwan, Lee Da Hee, Daniel Choi, Jung So Min and Han Sang Jin. The actors were interviewed about their thoughts toward the drama as well as with their experiences and participation.

Kang Ji Hwan plays as Kim Ji Hyuk shared, “The story of Big Man seemed to be predictable. Everyone knows what the answer will be. But, the interesting part and the biggest attraction about the drama is what the whole story would actually turn out to be. The drama looks plain with its plot but you’ll still see the strength behind every line.”

Actor Han Sang Jin plays as Do Sang Ho, also shared his thoughts and said, “Big Man is established by the great strength of teamwork. It has gathered good and notable actors. I also feel comfortable with the senior actors. When good people and good energy come together, good results also come out.”

Daniel Choi portrays the villain character in the drama as Kang Dong Seok. He shared, “When I first saw my role as a tycoon, I studied some films to observe old-fashioned villains so that I’ll be able to express my role well. Fortunately, my character seemed to come out well as well as the rest of the characters in the drama,” he said with satisfaction.

Lee Da Hee as So Mi Ra shared her thoughts, “I was really worried at first because my condition wasn’t well at that time. But, I told myself that I would do much better when filming begins.”

Lastly, actress Jung So Min plays as Kang Jin Ah. She shared her experience while filming the drama and said, “Filming the drama was really fun. But it also helps reveal what the problems are in the society. I would be really sad when the drama ends.”

Big Man broadcasted its first episode garnering 6% of viewership ratings. Then the ratings jumped off to 11.2% of ratings with its 8th episode aired on May 27th.

Jin Ah Plans a Hilarious Birthday Celebration with Her Non-oppa Ji Hyuk in
Episode 7 of Big Man

My enjoyment of Big Man remains tied to how many Kang Ji Hwan and Jung So Min scenes are in each episode. Currently it’s still one major scene and episode but it’s always something so entertaining I find myself laughing out loud and loving every second of it. Their chemistry is so good I hope they get another drama together to play OTP and just unleash hours of their cuteness together on the world. I’m still underwhelmed by the story proper in Big Man, Lee Da Hee‘s Mi Ra remains boring and boring-er while the return of Daniel Choi‘s Dong Seok has created the oddest schism for me. Dong Seok was shown to have a sweet childhood connection with Mi Ra and when they grew up they fell in love and he was happily planning on proposing when he was struck down by his failing heart. Cut to 5 episodes later and he’s back in the story and has suddenly turned into a possessive sociopath out to destroy Ji Hyuk and keep Mi Ra while she’s abruptly stopped loving him and spends all her time feeling sorry for Ji Hyuk.

I’m going to call this character assassination on Dong Seok for the sake of creating a big antagonist and to let Mi Ra off the hook for having feelings for Ji Hyuk. Otherwise she’s just a very unfaithful girlfriend to a guy who had the misfortune of being born with a heart defect and being part of a family that will use any means to get him a heart transplant. Now that Dong Seok has become as crazy and horrible as his parents, that leaves kooky and angry Jin Ah the sole decent human being in the Kang family.

Jin Ah takes matters into her own hands in episode 7 and gets a DNA test that proves he’s not her real oppa and then cooks horrible food, horribly plays the cello, and badgers Ji Hyuk to spend her “birthday” with her since she’s been reborn after kicking her no good suitor to the curb. I love the “love shot” moment (with Ji Hyuk muttering that she’s a psycho) and how she makes him re-sing Happy Birthday when he sings to my beloved dongsaeng and she orders him to sing to my beloved Jin Ah. He totally finds her crazy but puts up with her in ways that make her just like him more.
